Should the Phillies go all in for Manny Machado?

Should the Phillies go all in for Manny Machado?

As the MLB trade deadline creeps closer, the summer heat on contenders increases.  The Phils are faced with the choice of adding punch to their lineup in a season that has found them surprisingly ahead of schedule.  The price of trading for a high end talent like Machado may be steep - which may cause teams that are faint at heart to wait til winter.

Should the Phils wait until the winter free agent season - Bender thinks so!  Should they make their move now?  Check out the thoughts of Bender and Reems on this topic in our first episode of Poolside Genius.

As we get closer to the deadline, I'm more inclined to believe the Phils should make a trade for Machado - they have more than 10 solid prospect pitchers in their minors, along with a few position players that could be added.  The NL is wide open this year, and at the very least, getting post season experience is a major step for a young team like the Phillies.  Getting Machado in July will be a big addition to not only this season, but with a playoff run and a fat new contract offer from Philly next off season, the Phillies will have a top 10 major league star to build around.
